Beta and Experimental features explained

At Todoist, we build features openly with you before official launches, and your feedback shapes what we create. Let’s take a look at what each label means in the app.

Experimental features

Early versions that require you to opt in by enabling Experimental features in your Todoist settings.

Nota

We’re testing core ideas and gathering feedback to shape where we go next. These features might change significantly or be discontinued based on what we learn. They may also be less stable than officially released features.

What to expect:

  • Only shows up if you’ve turned on Experimental features in your settings
  • Rough edges and occasional bugs as we refine things
  • Changes based on your feedback, sometimes big ones
  • Some features may not make it to a broader release

Beta features

Stable and ready for daily use in Todoist.

We’re actively improving these features based on your feedback before their official launch. Beta features are already part of your Todoist experience – we’re just fine-tuning them.

What to expect:

  • Available to use without opting in
  • Stable and ready for real work
  • Ongoing improvements based on what you tell us
  • Labeled as “beta” so you know we‘re still iterating

How is beta different from Experimental features?

Experimental features are early explorations that require opt-in and might change dramatically. Beta features are polished enough to be part of the app – we’re just making them even better before the official launch.

Officially launched

Fully finished and no longer labeled as beta or experimental.

Once a feature is officially launched, you’ll find it in our standard help center articles and it’s considered complete. We still improve and update features over time based on your feedback, but the core experience is finalized.

FAQ

Beta features can’t be turned off, but some can be collapsed or minimized in the interface. Check the help center article for the specific feature to see what options are available.

Most beta features include a feedback link right in the interface. You can also reach out to us anytime with your thoughts – we read everything.

Beta features are stable enough to be available to everyone on the plan they’re designed for, so they don’t require you to turn on Experimental features. Think of it this way: Experimental = very early testing; Beta = ready to use but still improving.
