Channels, threads, and chats
Todoist Comms keeps communication in three places, each with a different job.
- Channels: a shared place for a team, a project, or a topic. A channel holds the related threads, files, and teammates in one spot.
- Threads: a single on-topic discussion with a title, living inside a channel. Everyone replies in one place, which keeps the full history together instead of scrolling away.
- Chats: private messages with one teammate or a small group, for the quick back and forth that doesn’t need a thread.
Threads are the better option for discussions you want to link to and keep in the open. Chats are better for talking privately and being social. When you’re not sure which one to use, start a thread.
One team workspace across Todoist and Todoist Comms
Todoist Comms uses the same team workspace as Todoist. It’s not a separate account or a separate team to set up.
That means your teammates are already there, everyone’s role carries over, and you log in once. When someone joins or leaves your team in Todoist, the same is true in Todoist Comms. Adding a member in Todoist Comms also adds them to your Todoist workspace. When you’re on a Business plan, you’ll be billed for that new seat.

Tasks from your threads
Most decisions start as a discussion and end as work someone has to do. Todoist Comms is built to close that gap.
When you create a Todoist task from a thread, or paste an existing task into one, it appears in the thread as a task card rather than a plain link. The card shows the task’s name, who it’s assigned to, its date, its priority, and whether it’s done. Anyone reading the thread can see what came out of the discussion, and select the card to open the task in Todoist.
Todoist Comms can also read a thread and suggest tasks from it, picking out the commitments and follow-ups people agreed to. You review the suggestions, adjust anything that isn’t right, and add the ones you want to Todoist.

Todoist Comms is available on the web, on desktop, and on Android and iOS. Your threads stay in sync across all of them, and you’ll get notified about new activity in the channels you’ve joined, mentions of your name, and replies to threads you’re following.
