If you’ve lost access to your Todoist account because your email account has changed, your third-party login isn’t working, or there’s a typo in the email address, don’t fret. This guide will walk you through your options to recover your Todoist account.
Check if you’re still logged in on any of your devices
If you're still signed in and have your current Todoist password and any authenticator code required by two-factor authentication (2FA), change your email address. Access to the old mailbox isn't required for this authenticated change.
If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, and have never set a Todoist password, add one first; the 2FA requirement still applies, if it's enabled.
If you can't complete the authenticated change, but remain logged in to Todoist on a device, you can provide a screenshot of your Account settings for ownership verification:
- Click your avatar at the top-left.
- Select Settings.
- Click the Account tab.
- Take a screenshot of your Todoist account settings.
- Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and attach the screenshot to your message.
- Tap Browse at the bottom-right.
- Tap Settings at the top-right.
- Select Account.
- Take a screenshot of your Todoist account settings.
- Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and attach the screenshot to your message.
If you’re not logged in to your Todoist account on any of your devices, continue to the next step.
Provide a copy of your Pro or Business plan receipt
If you upgraded to Todoist Pro or Todoist Business, a receipt of your payment is sent to your Todoist account email address. Use the search feature of your email app to find any emails from Todoist with the subject line “Your [plan type] receipt”.
If you upgraded using an in-app purchase with Apple or Google, you’ll find your receipts in your App Store or Google Play Store account.
Then, take a screenshot of the receipt. Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and attach it to your message.
Provide payment details of the upgrade or renewal
If you upgraded through direct billing with Todoist, but you can’t find a copy of your receipt, you may have access to the payment card associated with the upgrade or renewal. Likewise, if your Todoist account is on the Beginner plan right now, it's possible you may have previous receipts or payment details that you can provide to verify account ownership.
Get in touch with us about recovering your account, and provide the following:
- Last four digits of the card that was charged
- Payment card brand (for example: Visa, Mastercard, JCB)
- Expiry date of your card
- Exact amount that was charged
- Date of the last charge
Don't share your full credit card number or CVV code. Our team will check and verify that you’re the rightful owner of the Todoist account.
Update your account password and email address
After verifying that you own the Todoist account, you’ll receive a link to set a new password. Click the link, choose a strong password, and save it securely. Setting a new password through this link doesn't turn off two-factor authentication (2FA) or provide an authenticator code.
Next, change your email address to update the account email address. Changing your email address requires your Todoist password and, if 2FA is enabled, an authenticator code. If you can't provide the required code, mention this in your recovery request.

Start over: No proof of account ownership
If there's no remaining signed-in session for an Account-settings screenshot, and no previous Pro or Business payment evidence, account ownership can't be verified. You'll need to set up a new Todoist account with an active email address and a strong password.
