Use Todoist in Codex

You can use Todoist in Codex by adding the official Todoist plugin. Once it’s connected, Codex can read, create, and update the tasks and projects in your Todoist account, so you can plan your week, capture ideas, or tidy your Inbox without leaving your coding workflow.

Prefer to wire things up manually? You can also connect Todoist’s MCP (Model Context Protocol) server to ChatGPT.

Before you start

You’ll need a ChatGPT account.
You’ll need the ChatGPT desktop app. Codex is built in, with nothing extra to install.
You’ll need a Todoist account to sign in to.
You’ll need the Todoist plugin connected in ChatGPT.

Connect the plugin once in ChatGPT and it’s available in Codex too.

Connect the Todoist plugin

Open ChatGPT in your browser, or open the ChatGPT desktop app.
Select Plugins in the sidebar.
Search for Todoist, then open it.
Click the plus sign to install the plugin.
Log in to your Todoist account.
Approve the requested permissions.

Once it’s installed, the Todoist plugin is available in Codex too. Type @ to bring it up directly, or describe what you want in plain language and let Codex reach for it.

Use the Todoist plugin

Once connected, Codex can work with your Todoist account in multiple ways, including:

Read your tasks and projects.
Create new tasks and projects.
Update what’s already there, such as renaming a task, shifting its date, or moving it to another project.

This connection can read and make changes to your data. Codex acts only when you ask it to, but it’s worth checking each change before you confirm it.

Once you’re connected, plain language is enough to get things done.

Stay in flow	I’m working on the checkout feature. Check Todoist for related open tasks. Create a task to write unit tests for the payment module, due this Friday.
Plan your day	What’s overdue across my projects? Suggest three tasks to tackle first. Pull everything due today and help me put it in a realistic order.
Review your week	List my overdue tasks by project and suggest what to reschedule or drop. Show me everything due in the next 7 days and help me choose a realistic plan.
Tidy up	Review my Todoist Inbox and rewrite vague items as clear next actions. Ask before changing anything. Find tasks with no date in my Work project and suggest deadlines.

If you can describe it clearly, Codex can usually turn it into the right Todoist action. Glance over its work before you confirm.

Privacy and data handling

Connecting the Todoist plugin means your data moves between Todoist and Codex. On the Todoist side, the data is covered by Todoist’s privacy policy; once it reaches Codex, it also falls under OpenAI’s privacy policy.

Disconnect the Todoist plugin

If you no longer want to use the Todoist plugin in Codex, here’s how to remove it:

From ChatGPT:
1. Open ChatGPT in your browser, or open the ChatGPT desktop app.
2. Select Plugins in the sidebar.
3. Search for Todoist, then select it.
4. Click the three-dot menu (•••) next to the plugin.
5. Click Disconnect. In the ChatGPT desktop app, this is labeled Uninstall.
From Todoist:
1. Open Settings > Integrations.
2. Select ChatGPT.
3. Click Remove.

Troubleshoot the Todoist plugin

The Todoist plugin doesn’t appear in Codex

The plugin needs to be installed in ChatGPT first, and Codex picks it up when a session starts.

Open ChatGPT in your browser, or open the ChatGPT desktop app, then select Plugins in the sidebar to see what’s installed.
If Todoist isn’t there, install it. See Use the Todoist plugin in ChatGPT.
Start a new Codex session, then type @ and look for Todoist.

The OAuth window doesn’t open or keeps failing

Disable strict pop-up blockers for the sign-in flow, allow cookies for todoist.com, and avoid private browsing. Then try again.

Codex is connected but can’t see or change your tasks

Reconnect from both sides:

In ChatGPT, select Plugins in the sidebar, find Todoist, then use the three-dot menu (•••) to disconnect it.
In Todoist, open Settings > Integrations and revoke access for the ChatGPT connection.
Connect the plugin again in ChatGPT, then start a new Codex session.

Codex asks you to approve every change

That prompt comes from Codex, not Todoist. Because the Todoist plugin can change your data, Codex adds a confirmation step before it writes anything. This isn’t a setting Todoist controls. You can adjust Codex’s approval settings, but keeping the prompt for write actions gives you a chance to inspect important changes before they happen.
