Attach files when creating tasks in Todoist

Add files to your tasks directly from Quick Add. Capture a photo of a receipt on your phone, attach a PDF to a project task at your desk, or add a reference document while planning your week. Attach what you need and create the task all at once.

How it works

Files attached through Quick Add are automatically saved as the first comment on your task. This means you can capture everything in the moment without creating the task first and then backtracking to add files.

Attach a file

  1. Open Quick Add by clicking the + button or pressing Q.
  2. Enter your task name.
  3. Click Attachment.
  4. Select a file from your computer.
  5. Click Add task.

The file name appears below your task name once attached.

Obs

Drag and drop (web only): Drop a file directly onto Quick Add to attach it.
  1. Open Quick Add by tapping +.
  2. Enter your task name.
  3. Tap Attachment.
  4. Choose a file from your device.
  5. Tap Add task.

The Attachment button becomes active once a file is attached, with the file name displayed.

Raskt tips

Share from other apps: On iOS and Android, share files with Todoist from other apps. Quick Add opens with the file already attached.

Supported files

You can attach any of the 33 supported file types in Todoist. File size limits vary by plan:

  • Free: 5 MB per file
  • Pro and Business: 100 MB per file

Obs

Quick Add supports one attachment per task. To add multiple files, add them as comments after creating the task.

Replace or remove an attachment

Before creating your task:

  • Replace: Click or tap Attachment and select a different file.
  • Remove: Click or tap X next to the file name.

Creating multiple tasks

When you paste multiple lines into Quick Add to create several tasks at once, attachments won't carry over to the tasks. To attach files to multiple tasks, create each task individually.

Hide the attachment option

You can hide Attachment from Quick Add in your settings:

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Go to Quick Add.
  4. Toggle off Attachment under More actions.

Turn it back on anytime from the same menu.
