Todoist has improved task links with a new format. While old links still work, they will soon expire. Todoist updates these automatically where possible, but links saved outside the app like bookmarks or iOS shortcuts require manual updates. If a link is outdated, Todoist will prompt you to update it so you can continue accessing your tasks.
Update task links
If you open an outdated task link, you’ll see a dialog in Todoist that prompts you to choose one of the following:
- Click the Copy link button to replace the old one.
- Add a Todoist task as a reminder to update the task link later.
Replace the outdated link with the new link before saving it or sharing it with your team.
If you prefer to update the task link later, Todoist will add a task for it to your Inbox. This option pre-fills Quick Add with the following:
| Task name: | Update link |
| Task description: | Replace old link with the updated URL |
Update the Todoist iOS widget
If you have a Todoist widget that uses outdated links, and you’ll interact with that widget, Todoist for iOS will open and show a dialog that prompts you to choose one of the following:
- Click the Show home screen button, so you can remove and re-add the widget.
- Add a Todoist task to update the widget for later.
If you can’t find a Todoist widget, check the following locations:
- Home Screen
- Lock Screen (iOS 16+)
- Today View (the left-most screen)
- Smart Stacks
- Focus Modes
- Control widgets (Control Center, Lock Screen, and the Action Button)
Remove and re-add the Todoist widget to your home screen, so you have a clear and accurate picture of your task lists.
If you prefer to remove and re-add the widget later, Todoist will add a task for it in your Inbox. This option pre-fills Quick Add with the following:
| Task name: | Update widget |
| Task description: | Remove and re-add the Todoist widget |
Update the Todoist shortcut on iOS
If you have a Todoist shortcut that uses outdated links, you’ll see a dialog in Todoist that prompts you to choose one of the following:
- Click the Open Shortcuts button. This opens the Shortcuts app for iOS, so you can delete and re-add the shortcut.
- Add a Todoist task to update the shortcut for later.
Delete and re-add the Todoist shortcut to the Shortcuts app for iOS, so it runs smoothly whenever you need it.
If you prefer to delete and re-add the shortcut later, Todoist will add a task for it in your Inbox. This option pre-fills Quick Add with the following:
| Task name: | Update shortcut |
| Task description: | Delete and re-add shortcut using Todoist. |
