If you can’t log in to your Todoist account, the fixes below cover the most common causes, from a login method that doesn’t match the one you signed up with to password, security, and desktop app errors. For the steps to log in or out, see Log in and out of Todoist.
Check your login method
A common cause of a failed login is choosing a different option from the one you used to create your account. If you signed up with a linked account, log in with that same option instead of an email address and password. If you’re not sure which one you used, try each option on the login page.
If you no longer have access to the email address on your account, or your Google or Apple login has stopped working, see how to regain access to your Todoist account.
Reset your password
If you log in with an email address and you’ve forgotten your password, reset it from the login page.
- Open the Todoist login page.
- Click Forgot your password? under the Log in button.
- Enter your account email address.
- Follow the instructions in the email Todoist sends you to set a new password.
- Open the Todoist app.
- Tap More sign-in options.
- Tap Log in with Email.
- Tap Forgot your password? under the Log in button. This opens a new tab in your mobile browser.
- Enter your account email address.
- Follow the instructions in the email Todoist sends you to set a new password.
If you can still log in and want to set a new password anyway, follow the steps to change your password.
Fix the password data breach error
When you log in, reset your password, or sign up, Todoist checks your email address and password against the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) database of publicly disclosed data breaches. If your combination appears there, it’s considered insecure, and an error appears when you try to log in.
To get past the check, reset your password using the steps in the Reset your password section above, and choose a new one that hasn’t appeared in a breach. When choosing the new password:
- Use at least eight characters
- Mix letters, numbers, and special characters
- Don’t reuse a password from another site or app
- Save it in a password manager so you always have access to your account

Fix CSRF token errors
If you see “Invalid or missing CSRF token” on the web login page, your browser couldn’t create or read the secure cookie that authorizes your login. This is usually caused by ad-blocking or script-blocking extensions, or by browser settings that block cookies.
To fix it, allow cookies for Todoist and clear any stored Todoist data.
In Chrome:
- Open Chrome Settings.
- In the Privacy and security section, click Cookies and other site data.
- Under Sites that can always use cookies, click Add.
- Enter
[.]todoist.comand click Add. - Enter
[.]cloudfront.netand click Add. - Click See all cookies and site data.

https://todoist.comand click Allow. - Enter
https://cloudfront.netand click Allow. - Click Save Changes.
- Click Manage Data.
- Search for
todoistand select Remove All Shown. - Click Save Changes.
- Click Remove to confirm.
- Reload Firefox and log in to Todoist.
In Safari:

- Click the Privacy tab.
- Check that Cookies and website data isn’t set to Block all cookies.
- Click Manage Website Data.
- Search for
todoistand remove all Todoist-related entries. - Reload Safari and log in to Todoist.
If you see “CSRF tokens mismatch” instead, a privacy extension such as Ghostery or Privacy Badger is blocking the login. Add todoist.com as a trusted site in the extension, or turn the extension off temporarily and try again.
Log in with a recovery code
If you’ve enabled two-factor authentication but lost access to your authentication app, use one of the recovery codes Todoist generated when you set it up:
- Open the Todoist login page in your web browser.
- Enter your account email address and password.
- Click Enter a recovery code here below the Authentication code field.
- Enter one of your saved recovery codes.
If you didn’t save your recovery codes, or they’re no longer working, request a recovery code from our team. Todoist sends it to your account email address.
Fix issues with the desktop apps
When you log in to the Todoist desktop apps, a new browser tab opens automatically where you enter your account credentials. If you find yourself in a constant login loop between the browser and the app, see an error message or a blank screen, or Todoist becomes unresponsive, work through these fixes in order.
Use the latest version of Todoist
If a new version is available, you’ll see a pop-up in Todoist to restart and update automatically. If you need to manually reinstall Todoist for macOS, follow the steps to update Todoist to the latest version.
- Right-click the Todoist icon in the system tray.
- Select Quit Todoist. The new version is installed automatically once the app is closed.
