Introduction to Todoist Assist

Todoist Assist is our AI-powered suite of tools designed to work intelligently behind the scenes to enhance your Todoist experience. When you use Todoist Assist features, it considers the specific context of your request and relevant information from your Todoist account to provide helpful suggestions.

Privacy and data security

Todoist Assist uses tools powered by various, carefully selected large language models (LLMs), available through providers renowned for their high levels of security and privacy. Your information remains secure while it delivers intelligent productivity features.

• Doist runs all AI functionality on secure infrastructure to ensure customer data stays protected within our environment.
• We work with AI providers that maintain strict data handling practices aligned with our privacy commitments. This includes models from top AI providers available via AWS Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI.
• These providers have committed that data processed through their services will not be used to train their AI models.
• You can control which features of Todoist Assist you want to use.

In the future, we may introduce options that allow you to specify certain preferences that would be included with your interactions. This makes Todoist Assist more personalized to your needs. These preferences would be stored securely in your account, and only used to improve your direct experience with Todoist Assist.

Todoist Assist supports your productivity

Todoist Assist works behind the scenes to help you achieve more without disrupting any of your existing workflows. Here are some features that are built on Todoist Assist:

Suggest sub-tasks

Todoist can suggest sub-tasks that will help break complex tasks down and into digestible chunks. 

To ask for sub-task suggestions:

1. Click a task. This opens the task view.
2. Click Suggest sub-tasks. Todoist will display a list of relevant sub-tasks.
3. Click Add to confirm and add them to the parent task.

If you’re not entirely satisfied with the results, click the Refine suggestions button and provide more context. Todoist will provide a new set of suggestions based on your feedback.

Email Assist

If you have a Todoist Pro or Business subscription, you can use Email Assist to automatically convert your forwarded emails. It will turn your email content — like due dates, notes, and more — into actionable Todoist tasks for all your projects.

To use Email Assist, go to your Advanced settings and turn it on. Then, start forwarding email to Todoist: 

1. Open a project.
2. Click the three dots icon at the top-right.
3. Select Email tasks to this project.
4. Click Copy email.
5. Forward your email to the unique email address.

Filter Assist

Filter Assist helps you create powerful filters without memorizing complex query syntax. Simply describe what you want to see in plain language, and Filter Assist will suggest the appropriate filter.

To use Filter Assist:

1. Click Filters & Labels in the sidebar.
2. Click the add icon next to Filters.
3. Click Try it in the Filter Assist banner at the top.
4. Describe which tasks you want to filter in the Filter request field.
5. Click Send.
6. Click Add filter.

Email Assist is the only Todoist Assist feature that you can turn on or off for your account. All other features supported by Todoist Assist are optional. You can choose to use them or to ignore them completely.
